Why Potawatomi Woods for Fall?
A bevy of golden sugar maples, amber oaks and hickories with rusted tinge makes this wooded heaven a Fall season darling for Chicago folks, inviting hundreds each season.

How to Plan your visit?

•  I recommend parking here near the Potawatomi Lake and then take the natural trails meandering the lake and the Des Plaines River.

I parked near the dam and did a custom hike along the pond, into the woods, cutting into the Des Plaines River Biking Trail (called Red path) at the north side and then angling back to the pond.

• As always, run through this indispensable outdoor backpack checklist and be prepared.

This fallen mega tree trunk was a popular spot for the fall shutterbugs
Best of fall – hues all around!

I took an unmarked trail hoping to cut into Des Plaines River Trail in the north.

Only the sea of trees for company!

Few minutes of stroll connected me to the Des Plaines biking path, which was equally magical.

While coming back, we did a drive through nearby Dam #1 Woods Preserve, which offered exquisite fall colors.

That wrapped up a terrific day for me, I felt that you cannot go wrong with Potawatomi and it’s promise of fall extravaganza.
